Joomla! 1.5 Multimedia book review Print E-mail
Monday, 12 April 2010 00:16

As announced in my previous blog post I just finished reading Joomla! 1.5 Multimedia, a book by Allan Walker that was published by Packt Publishing earlier this year. This book introduces various multimedia types and shows several ways how to embed these into a Joomla! website. Apart from that, it also discusses some accessibility issues and offers deeper understanding of the underlying media.

Joomla! with Flash book review Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 December 2009 21:19

Ever wanted to spice up your website a little bit but never considered Flash as one of the options? Then you are probably like me, I always thought that embedding any Flash content in a website, let alone Joomla!, is a cumbersome and error-prone process that requires way more work to justify the gain. Well, this book made me reconsider my opinion, showing me that using Flash together with Joomla! is not only easy, but is often a reasonable and sensible choice.

Introduction to DPWS (Devices Profile for Web Services) Print E-mail
Monday, 09 November 2009 01:12

I have decided to write a series of articles on DPWS because there are only few resources available on the Internet and I would like to make it more accessible to newcomers. First let’s have a look on what DPWS is:

DPWS stands for Devices Profile for Web Services. It is essentially a subset of Web Services that a device must implement in order to ensure Web Service capability and compatibility while imposing only minimum requirements upon the device itself. DPWS was first introduced by Microsoft in 2004 and is now being developed jointly by individuals across the IT industry and a new version was standardized by OASIS in June this year.

DPWS Tutorial: the WS4D.org Java DPWS Stack Intro Print E-mail
Friday, 13 November 2009 11:56

In this article I would like to introduce the WS4D.org Java ME implementation of the DPWS Stack. So far, this is the most powerful and customizable stack I have ever worked with, and although it has some limitations, it is still the best option if you are developing a Java DPWS application. Lets have a look at the structure of the stack, we will need this information for one of the next articles, where we will be building a (*cough*somewhat*cough*) working chat device using this stack.
